Mrs. Josephine V. Robbins

Josephine Robbins, 89, of 9 Hyatt St., Cortland, passed away, on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Jo was a lifelong resident of Cortland, She was born and raised, married and nurtured her family and grew old with her husband Ben, in the same house on Hyatt St. where she grew up with her two brothers, a rarity in this day and age. Jo was a devoted member of St. Anthony's Church where she was baptized, married and raised her girls in the Catholic faith. She was an avid reader, bowler and loved to travel, even traveling to Italy at the age of 75, but her favorite place to be was at the family camp on Bradley Brook. While raising her three daughters, she was a stay at home Mom as well as helping her husband own and operate the local Pepsi-Cola franchise in Cortland and the surrounding areas for 18 years. After selling the business she then worked at Crescent Corset as a secretary until her retirement. Jo is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Ben, her daughters, Cheryl (Peter) Contento, Judi (Tom) Wilkins and Kathy (Gerald) Coggi all of Cortland, her grandchildren, Paul (Liz) Contento and Carrie Contento (Brendan Rew), Ty (Melissa) and Becky (Aaron) Sprouse and Nicole Coggi (Eric Rodriguiz) and Michael and Dustin Coggi, two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Ella Sprouse and her brother, James (Ursula) DiRosa of Cortland, sister in laws, Pauline and Margaret Robbins and cousin, Rose DeCenzo and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felice and Teresa DiRosa, brother, Albert and grandson, Anthony Contento. The family would like to thank Connie Potter and Sally White for the wonderful care that they gave their mother as well as to Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where she spent the last several months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
