Mrs. Jane S. Maher

Mrs. Jane S. Maher, 84, of Tully, N.Y., and formerly of Truxton, passed away, Wednesday May 21, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y. Born February 16, 1930 in Cortland, Jane was a daughter of John and Lillian Call Simon and was a resident of Preble for many years. Jane was formerly employed as a chief operator with NewYork Telephone for many years as well as a bus driver with the Homer School District. She also was a proprietor along wither husband, Joseph of Maher Bros. Utilities Construction. Jane was a communicant of St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Truxton for many years and most recently a communicant of St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church in Tully. Her memberships included, St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society, charter member of the Preble Ladies Fire Auxiliary and a charter member of the County Ladies Fire Auxiliary, a volunteer at Cortland Regional Medical Center as well as a member of The Catholic Daughter's of The Americas Court #919, Cortland. Jane was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Knickerbocker Country Club. Survivors include her son, Paul (Bonnie) Maher of Truxton, two daughters, Carol Maher ( Russell Day) of Long Island and Kathryn (John) Touchette of LaFayette, a brother, Joseph Simon of Preble, two sisters, Betty Ann (Lloyd) Pitman and Babe (Hank) Carroll both of Preble., thirteen grandchildren, Jeffrey, Nick, Amanda, Kellie and P.J. Maher and Brandy Goodfellow, Rory Maher-Siems, Mary-Ellen, Audrey, Lillian, Leo, Angela and John Touchette, seven great grandchildren, Kali, Collin, Cialea, Cayden, Colbie, Laci and Hayleigh. Jane was preceded in death by a brother, William Simon and her husband, Joseph Maher in 2003. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. In St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church, Tully, New York. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Cortland, N.Y. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 5-8 p.m. In the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N.
