Mrs. Virginia I. Hafner

November 12, 1922 - July 28, 2013

Virginia Irene Veronica Schultz Hafner November 12, 1922 - July 28, 2013 A new, eternal life began July 28th for Virginia Irene Veronica Schultz Hafner. Originally of Middletown, NY, Virginia, the daughter of William and Mattie Schulz of Middletown, also lived in McGraw and Liberty, New York. A devoted wife to Ernest Beck Hafner until his passing in 1984, and skilled nurse providing tender, loving caring for patients throughout Orange and Sullivan County, Virginia believed her most important accomplishments and the passion of her life were her three children, Reginald (Yung Chu) Hafner of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jan (Thomas) Hirsch of Monticello, and Daniel (Wendy) Hafner of Fort Pierce, Florida, and her eleven beloved grandchildren, Becky, Sheila, Ernest, Tzana, Stuart, Sean, Jean-Paul, Alicia, Claire, Sasha, and Andre. Virginia was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel William Schultz, William Arthur Schultz, Jr., and Gordon Hilmar Schultz, and a beloved companion, Kermit C. Roe of McGraw, New York. She also leaves behind ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a legacy of love and compassion that will live on through those who celebrate her life and were touched by her gentle kindness, including the caring staff at Sullivan County Adult Care Center, where she spent her final years. An avid reader, writer and devoted Christian, Virginia gave us the gifts of love, laughter, faith, music, and hope that were inspiring and heartfelt. Her spirit will continue to enliven and enrich our lives for generations to come. A Mass of Resurrection at Church of St. Peter in Monticello will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30th, at 3:00 p.m., and graveside services will take place on Wednesday, July 31st at McGrawville Rural Cemetery in McGraw, New York. Arrangements have been entrusted to Van Inwegen & Kenny, Inc., Funeral Home, Monticello, NY. To send a memory or message to the family, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers,s please consider sharing an act of random kindness or charity with a stranger in Virginia's memory. Local arrangements are under the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home,Cortland, N.Y. www.riccardifuneralhome.com
