Mr. Thomas P. Hartnett

December 31, 1957 - February 6, 2019

Mr. Thomas P. Hartnett, 61, of Cortland, passed away Wednesday February 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Born December 31, 1957 in Cortland, Tom was the son of Philip and Mary Hartnett Paro and was a lifelong Cortland resident. A 1976 graduate of Cortland High School, Tom also attended Tompkins Cortland Community College. Tom was involved in his community and served in various capacities. He was a member of the Cortland County Democratic Committee and served as a county legislator for the past 15 years. Tom with his wife Cyndi and son, Joshua owned and operated Frank & Mary’s Diner, a Cortland Landmark for many years. He volunteered his time at St. Mary’s School and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the board of Access to Independence. An accomplished golfer Tom was a member of Willowbrook and also played on various teams at Walden Oaks. Tom was a member of the North American One-Armed Golfer Association, where he served two terms as their President. He and Cindy were able to travel to to Scotland where he played at St. Andrew’s. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Sorrells Hartnett and his son, Joshua, both at home. Two sisters, Rosemary (Ronald) Hulslander and Theresa (Brent Cross) Hartnett both of Cortland, four brothers, Jeremiah (Renee) Hartnett of Brewerton, Philip J. Hartnett of New Mexico, Patrick (Diane) Hartnett of South Carolina and James (Johanna) Hartnett of Cortland, Sister in law, Roxanne Sorrells ( Glenn Sloan) of Cortland, brothers in law; Gary Sorrells of Florida and Joe Camillo of Cortland and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in law, Diane Camillo and his daughter, Michelle Hartnett. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y.
