Mr. Karol W. Lowie

March 6, 1926 - July 15, 2015

Mr. Karol W. Lowie, 89, of Cortland passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at his home after a brief illness. Born March 6, 1926 in Faith, South Dakota, he was the son of Oscar and Antonia VanDonsel Lowie. Karol was a Cortland resident most of his life. Mr. Lowie served in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Smith-Corona in Cortland after 43 years and was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mr. Lowie was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved the summers he spent at the family cottage on Owasco Lake. He was a 3rd Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Cortland Council #233 where he also served as financial secretary. Mr. Lowie was also a member of the American Legion Post 489. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Casey Lowie and their eight children, Sandra (Gary) Pickett of Homosassa, Florida; Dianne Galutz of Cortland, Barbara (Gary) Hicks of Princess Anne, Maryland; Karol M. (Joan) Lowie and Stephen (Melody) Lowie both of Cortland, Jeffrey (Lori) Lowie of Woodburn, Indiana; Timothy (Brenda) Lowie of Norwich, N.Y., and Christopher (Kelly) Lowie of Virginia Beach, Virginia., a sister, Jane Compagni of Florida,19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. The family will be present to receive family and friends on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home, 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y. 13045.
