Karen M. King, 53, of Cortland/Freetown, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at home, after a long battle with Lyme disease. Karen was born January 19, 1964 in Yonkers, N.Y., the daughter of Rose and Claude (Chuck) King. Karen was a graduate of TC3 and previously a counselor at Catholic Charities in Cortland. Karen was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Karen was a volunteer cheer Mom with the Cortland H.S. Cheerleaders, guard Mom with the Cortland H.S Winter Guard, a leader of the Barry School Girl Scout Troop and a volunteer with the Red Cross Swim program. She previously resided in Brick, N.J. and was active in the community there. Karen lived a life continuously focused on those around her. Karen is survived by her children Jack (Krissia) Keck of Cranford, N.J., Erin Keck of Clark, N.J., Theresa Keck of Candor, N.Y., granddaughter Charlie; brother Daniel (Deborah) King, and nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her father Chuck King in 1996, and her mother Rose King in 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Kenneth Kirkman officiating. Burial in St. Raymond's Catholic Cemetery in the Bronx will be at the family's convenience. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. In the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y.
