Mr. Joseph H. La Rue

March 3, 1947 - April 10, 2017

Mr. Joseph H. La Rue, 70, of Homer, N.Y. Passed away Monday April 10, 2017 at Hospicare of Ithaca. Born March 3, 1947 in Ogdensburg, Joseph was the son of Henry and Vivian Randall La Rue and was a Homer resident his entire life. He had faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. Joseph was a Police Officer with the City of Cortland for 20 years before retiring in 1991. He was a communicant of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Cortland Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and the Cortland D.A.V. He is survived by his wife of 49 years; Judith Petrella La Rue, a son; Stephen La Rue (Dawn Daly) of DeWitt and 5 grandchildren; Brittany La Rue of Rochester, Nicholas La Rue, serving with the U.S. Military in Kuwait, John Brown, Isabelle Brown and Samuel Brown all of Homer and 2 great grandchildren; Kyson and Breighlyn La Rue., a son in law; David Brown of Homer and his siblings; Patricia (Ronald) Kiah, Dolores (Howard) Knight, Elizabeth (Dean) Akins all of Lisbon, N.Y., John (Peg) Wilson of Hammond, Charles (Ann) Wilson of Albany, Robert (Barbara) Wilson of Florida, David Wilson (Linda Mitchell) of Hammond, and his long time friend; Gary Winters of Florida. In addition to his parents Joseph was preceded in death by a brother; James Wilson and his daughter; Kristin La Rue Brown in February.Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St. Cortland, N.Y. with Rev. Paul Alciati officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-6 p.m. In the funeral home chapel.Contributions in Joseph's memory may be made to Hospicare 172 E. King Rd. Ithaca, N.Y. 14850.
