Mr. John P. Laura

June 4, 1955 - September 7, 2020

Mr. John P. Laura, 65, of Freeville, N.Y., succumbed to lung cancer on September 7, 2020 at Hospicare of Ithaca. Born June 4, 1955. John grew up in Syracuse, worked in Binghamton and retired to Freeville. John received his Bachelors Degree from LeMoyne College-and his MSW degree from Marywood University. He also attended the school of Hard Knocks. He was employed as a Social Worker for 25 years at the Broome Developmental Center. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cortland and a member of the Knights of Columbus Cortland Council #233. John liked to travel and would have liked to see Campobasso, but, settled for Philadelphia. His hobbies included genealogy, cooking, playing the saxaphone, but not the violin. He is survived by his wife; Elena, two brothers; Robert Laura (Susan) Francis Laura and a sister; Joan Laura, DDS (George Nardone)., a son; Douglas Laura (Nicole) a daughter; Alexandra Laura, three nieces; Carolyn Laura Zenobi, Alyson Laura, Katy Laura Mei (Robert),Two grandsons; Johnny and Kent Laura, one grand-nephew; Xavier Zenobi, three step sons; Peter Cherepanov ( Goudele), Max Borbat, (Eno), Stan Borbat (Mila) three step-granddaughters; Maria Cherepanov, Katerina and Petra Borbat and many relatives and friends (too many to mention) as well his Cat; Pompidou (AKA Kisa) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12 Noon in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zareski serving as celebrant. Prayers of committal will be held privately in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse, N.Y. Arrangements are under the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home, Cortland, N.Y. www.riccardifuneralhome.com “I was not at war and did not lose a battle, I was not a victim of a struggle. I did nothing heroic; I was scared. This was just something that happened.”
