Edward W. Wethje, 95, formerly of Cortland passed away, Monday, September 24, 2012 at Senior First Kirkhaven in Rochester, N.Y. Born, September 5, 1917 in Syracuse, Edward lived for many years in Eastwood before relocating to Cortland. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War ll, surviving D Day. He was employed by Durkee Bakery and later at Conti Optical in Syracuse and was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cortland. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine G. Cross Wethje of Rochester and 2 daughters, Nancy (Bill) Guyette of Connecticut, Sandra (Ken) Ferguson of Rochester and 4 sons, Thomas (Pat) of Cortland, Ted ( Donna ) of Connecticut, Richard (Lyn) of Homer and Larry (Stephanie) of Maryland, 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 noon in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Prayers of committal with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y., prior to the funeral mass.
