Mr. George Raymond Corser

George Raymond Corser, 96, of Cortland, New York, passed away on January 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Ray was born on May 20, 1928, to the late Lawrence and Bertha Corser. A longtime resident of Cortland, Ray graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1947. Shortly after graduation, he married Dorothy Stisser. Ray and Dorothy were married for over 50 years and raised three sons and a daughter. You could count on them for family outings to local parks for picnics, fishing and traditional holidays with extended family. They enjoyed a devoted partnership u til Dorothy’s passing in December 2000. Ray worked at Brockway Motors before joining NYSE&G in 1956, where he remained until his retirement in 1988. A avid golfer, Razor, as he was known at the golf course, held a membership at Willowbrook Golf Course for many years. He participated in leagues and tournaments and golfed as much as possible during his free time. He was a volunteer Fireman for many years, and he also loved gardening, yard work, playing cards, bowling, and visiting with his many family members and friends in the community. Ray was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church, which he attended regularly. He is survived by his children: John (Cora), Richard (Mary), and Katharine Corser-Sorell (Gabriel). His grandchildren are Christine (Jon), John Jr., Jennifer Searles, Ryan Corser (Jessica), Zachary Polun, and Amanda Klopott (Freeman). He also has eight great-grandchildren: Kaylei, Gavin, Cecilia, Rosalie, Preston, Charlotte, Avital, Amichai, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Baldwin. Ray was a favorite uncle and friend to many. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and son Peter. He lost his brothers, David, Lawrence, and Paul. The family would like to recognize Nancy Steckel, Ray's significant other of many years, her daughters, Casy and Danielle, and Nancy's grandchildren, Delaney and Diandra. Nancy was Ray's constant companion, and they enjoyed many years together. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice and Palliative Care Services 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday Jan 30, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The Christian Rite of Committal and Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family invites all to a reception immediately following mass in the church hall.
