Mr. Anthony Camillo

Anthony "Gabby" Camillo, 94, of Cortland died peacefully at his home after a brief illness on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Born, November 23, 1917 in Cortland, Tony was the son of Daniel and Adele Lolli Camillo and was a resident of Cortland his entire life. Tony was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church He had retired from Brockway Motor Co. and prior to that was employed for many years at Wickwire's. Tony was an avid New York Yankee Fan. In his youth he was thrilled to have seen John McGraw play ball in Truxton. He loved talking about the Big Band Era and seeing Frank Sinatra and Benny Goodman. Tony was a contributor to the Cortland County Historical Books where he was able to share his experiences and knowledge on the history of Cortland. Tony made many friends and acquaintances as he made his walks around the city, he would frequently stop to talk with people, whether he was out shopping or just getting in his walk, Tony always took the time to share a smile and a story with others as he walked throughout the city that had been his home his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Maria D'Alessio Camillo, his daughter, Angelica Camillo (John Petrella) of Cortland, and many nieces and nephews, Carmen Sepe, Paul Sepe, Rose Range, Lorraine Fox, Dolores Heller, Anthony Sepe, Ethel Morgan, Lucy Camillo, Daniel Camillo, William Evans, Ethel Weibly, Sharon Schwanke, Robert Evans and John Evans and several great nieces and nephews.Including a special great niece and nephew who were always helpful and caring, Patricia and Thomas Kamps of Cortland. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his siblings, Pasqua Sepe, Lillian Raponi, Alfred Camillo, Mary Evans and Rose Gattola. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St, Cortland, with Rev. Lucian Urbaniak officiating. Prayers of committal will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Camillo family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
